Ask Salt

Use Ask Salt to work with Salt through conversation. Choose the Salt Agent for built-in capabilities across Salt, or select a custom agent when a conversation needs configured behavior, tools, or sources.

What Ask Salt is

Ask Salt is the chat surface available from the Ask Salt side pane and the full-page Threads view. The built-in Salt Agent is the default, and you can select a custom agent after it has a published version.

Choose the Salt Agent or a custom agent

Use the Salt Agent to build and edit Pipelines, run and troubleshoot them, find and understand nodes, create custom nodes, or search connected knowledge and data.

Use a custom agent when you want instructions from Behavior, a selected Model, and a specific set of Tools & Sources to shape the conversation. A custom agent can include an Agentic Tool, which lets it call a published Pipeline during chat.

Vocabulary

• Ask Salt -- the chat surface where you talk with the Salt Agent or a selected custom agent.
• Salt Agent -- the built-in default agent for working across Salt.
• custom agent -- an agent you create and configure, then publish before using it in Ask Salt.
• Agentic Tool -- a published Pipeline capability that an agent can call. Publishing one does not attach it to a custom agent automatically.
